SF/MONTEREY BAYS Annonymous GOTH/INDUSTRIAL CARPOOLING project announced

The impact of a radically slowing economy and high gas prices has effected everyone in our scenes
which have all scene some attrition in the past couple of years and have reduced the number of
people travelling between scenes in the two Bay Areas (Montery/SF)

So instead of just allowing inner city transport between scenes to just dwindle to nothing,
We want to be proactive about encouraging carpooling between cities in an effort to increase attendance
and lower people's costs.

Santa Cruz has moved it's long running (almost 10 years now) Goth club to Sunday nights, specifically
to make it possible for people in SC to visit Death Guild or B.A.G.G. in SF and people in the Bay Area to visit the BOX in
SC without there being a conflict.

Consequently, There are now at least three weekly goth events and several monthly goth/industrial events in the TWO BAY AREAS for people who want to get their goth/industrial on and several

**********************************
To save increasing travel expenses between cities we would like to propose
an EMAIL CARPOOLING scheme that is ANNONYMOUS , so that people
who want to participate can send their email addresses (and transportation needs and capabilities)
to one central location that is both ANNONYMOUS and hence ENTIRELY NON-SPAMMABLE.

This email list WILL NOT BE USED for publicizing events. It will ONLY BE FOR CARPOOLING SOLUTIONS.

So, anyone interested in either driving other carpoolers or catching a ride with someone who is driving already
from ANY LOCATION in the SOUTH BAY/SAN FRANCISCO/EAST BAY and MONTEREY BAY AREAS
should write to me off of this list at RICK WALKER looppool(at sign)cruzio(dot sign)com.

I will collate all the information ANNONYMOUSLY and people can then write to me directly when they want to either
1) go from one place to another without their own transportation but be willing to share gasoline expenses
2) be able to drive other carpoolers from one location to another and be able to share gasoline expenses

If you are interested, please take the time to:

INCLUDE THIS IN YOUR HEADER SO THAT I CAN COLLATE THE INFORMATION VERY QUICKLY:

subject line: "GOTH/INDUSTRIAL CARPOOL MEMBER: 1)owns car/doesn't own car 2)city you live in 3) clubs you want to visit theoretically"

***********************
How this will work is this:

If I recieve an email from someone who needs a ride, they will write in their header:

subject line: NEEDS RIDE 1)from what city 2) to what event 3) date of event

or , if they wish to drive and share gas expenses with someone else they should write

subject line: CARPOOLERS NEEDED 1) from what city 2) to what event/city 3) date of event.

I will immediately forward this message to the general carpooling list in a BLIND CARBON COPY so
that noones email will go out.

Then anyone can respond at their leisure and only the person seeking or offering a ride will know who has responded.

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!! EMAILS not received in this form will be filtered by my spam filters
and WILL NOT REACH ME.

*****************************

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING:

The more lead time the better.
PLEASE SEND YOUR REQUESTS IN A MINIMUM of 48 HOURS AHEAD OF TIME if you want to connect with people.

*****************************
LAST NOTE: If you are cynical about this idea, please don't flame me. Just don't join.

Also, please consider that i'm volunteering to do a lot of work for free in an effort to help our
respective scenes grow and give me a break if it seems like nonsense to you.

Here's to a strong and growing Goth/Industrial scene in Northern California!!!!!!

yours,

Anybody else in complete love with The synthetic dream foundation's newest album "Behind the gates of horn and ivory"? Def. one of the best albums I have come across this year. I think they have clips of it somewhere on their site. If you don't own a copy, I highly recommend getting one.

FREE PEERS EVENT: The Impressionists' Picnic Dance, Saturday, August 2

If you’ve always been curious about PEERS events and are interested in trying one out, our next dance might actually be a good one to try: It’s absolutely free! Here’s our latest event update:

THE IMPRESSIONISTS’ PICNIC DANCE
-A Picnic in the Park with PEERS
Saturday, August 2, 2008
Location: Lincoln Park
1450 High Street, Alameda
(Near the Rose Garden)
Suggested Set-Up Time: 11:00 am (or earlier)
Picnic Luncheon begins: 11:30 am
Formal Dancing: 1:30 – 4:30 pm
Band: Bangers & Mash (David Strong, Stan & Susan Kramer, & guest artist Charlie Hancock)
Admission: Free!
Website: http://peers.org/picnic.html

Le Salon des Refusés invites painters, models, artistic subjects, and interested members of the artistic-minded public to join us for an outdoor picnic, fete, and dance in shady, picturesque Lincoln Park.

Guests are urged to bring a period-looking picnic and plenty of beverages to sustain them through an afternoon of elegant but lively dancing. Since the picnic tables at Lincoln Park are at the opposite end of the park from the Rose Garden, where we shall be gathering, we suggest bringing blankets to spread on the ground for your picnic luncheon, and chairs or tables if you wish them.

Just for clarification: This event is not a potluck. Do bring your own luncheon! Our own chefs and their kitchen staff will be on holiday. To add to the fun and ambience of the event, we urge our fellow picnickers to make their picnic sites look as 19th century and picturesque as possible. For inspiration, we highly recommended the BBC miniseries, “The Impressionists,” which will also give you some great costume tips.

Mid to late 19th century dress (1860-1900) is admired but not required, and “artistic” costume, Pre-Raphaelite attire, or modern dress is also perfectly acceptable. Given the changeable nature of our lovely Alamedan Parisian weather, you may find it useful as well as ornamental to wear a hat or bonnet and bring both a parasol and a wrap. Since this is, after all, an informal event, straw boaters or even berets may take the place of top hats and fancy bonnets. Above all, please wear sturdy, comfortable shoes you can dance in outdoors.

After the luncheon, the always elegant Bangers & Mash will play an afternoon of 19th century waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and French and English country dance music for your dancing pleasure (All pattern dances will be briefly taught or called). We are also pleased to announce that there will also be a special dance performance by the always delightful Alameda Vintage Dancers, who will be performing two excerpts from their “Renoir Suite.”

Artists, both professional and amateur, are encouraged to set up their easels and to invite their models. Witty, artistic conversation and elegant flirtation are also encouraged.

This event is a thank you to all of our devoted fans, and we will not be charging a fee for admission. Donations for our brilliant and hard-working musicians will be gratefully accepted, however, both before and during the event. To make an advance donation, simply go to the event website at http://peers.org/picnic.html, click on the PayPal icon and follow the directions.

If you have any questions, please email peers@peers.org or call (510) 522-1731.

EMERALD CITY BALL - SATURDAY, JULY 5

Tickets are still available for PEERS’ Emerald City Ball and will be sold at the door for $20.00 each. We have a few other fun updates on the ball that we’d like to share with you:

The Emerald City Ball
(sponsored by the Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society)
Saturday, July 5, 2008
Doors Open at 6:45 p.m.
Dance Lesson: 7:00 p.m. (Edwardian and Ragtime Dances)
Dancing begins: 8:00 p.m.
Band: The Divertimento Dance Orchestra
Tickets at the Door: $20.00
Ball Website: http://peers.org/emerald.html

We're off to see the Wizard at a ball in the glorious capital city of Oz. Come join us in honouring the singular courage of Dorothy Gale and her intrepid companions as they prepare to embark on their dangerous mission to the West.

There is definitely no need to stress about costumes for this ball. You have a huge range of choices: Fantasy costume, period costume (Medieval to Edwardian), or a combination of the two is admired but not required and, of course, green attire and costumes inspired by the Oz universe will be very welcome. While the ball is technically set in 1900, the citizens of Oz wear a variety of costumes ranging from Medieval gowns and tunics all the way up to late Victorian and Edwardian frocks and frock coats. Vintage or modern evening dress is also appropriate since the most unusual visitors do occasionally arrive in the Land of Oz.

Our Emerald City band is the Divertimento Dance Orchestra, a vintage dance band known for their elegance, authenticity and versatility. Dance music for the evening will range from graceful Edwardian ballroom dance music to the Great Wizard’s own favorite Ragtime tunes from his distant native star Omaha, Amerika. Dance waltzes, polkas, schottisches, reels, contradances, mixers and other popular turn of the century dances as well as the newer Ragtime one-step, two-step and tango. The Wizard will provide music for every taste (If you’re familiar with the 1939 film version of “The Wizard of Oz,” you will definitely recognize some of the tunes.).

For those wishing a brush-up in the latest dances, the pre-ball dance class will focus on the “new” dances of the Edwardian and Ragtime age: The lively One-Step, the sinuous One-Step Tango, the beautiful Hesitation Waltz, and the Turning Two-Step, an smooth and fun 1890’s alternative to the Polka.

The ball will also feature our famous No-Host (cash) bar, serving both alcoholic and soft drinks. The Wizard will also provide a complimentary light snack buffet (Your potluck contributions to the buffet are most welcome. The Emerald City is very expensive to maintain!).

For more information, please call (510) 522-1731 or email peers@peers.org before Saturday.

Driving Directions:
Take the 3rd Avenue exit off 101, going west into San Mateo. Follow 3rd Avenue across the railroad tracks and turn right on Ellsworth Avenue. The Masonic Lodge - a white three-story Colonial style Edwardian building - is located on the corner of Ellsworth and Tilton.
We can really use your help in SANTA CRUZ this coming SUNDAY night

The Box, the longest running Goth club in this area (over 10 years now)
is fighting for it's life with it's home, the Blue Lagoon.

Diminished attendance has apparently made the owner lose confidence in our scene
(though we've made the club a lot of moolah over the last ten years).

We've moved the club to Sunday nights (from it's long running Monday night time slot)
so now, for the first time, there is no conflict with people wanting to attend Death Guild
in San Francisco.

So, if you have felt at all like going to a fun Goth/Industrial event over here but have put it off, we'd love it if you would 'invade' us as we have done several times with SF
clubs in the past.

Thanks, and I hope we see you there!!!!

Try a Purple Trumpet, our official Goth girl drunk drink!!!

The Emerald City Ball
(sponsored by the Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society)
Saturday, July 5, 2008
Doors Open at 6:45 p.m.
Dance Lesson: 7:00 p.m.
Dancing begins: 8:00 p.m.
Band: The Divertimento Dance Orchestra
Advance Tickets: $15.00 (by June 28)
Tickets at the Door: $20.00
Ball Website: http://peers.org/emerald.html

We're off to see the Wizard at a ball in the glorious capital city of Oz. Come join us in honouring the singular courage of Dorothy Gale and her intrepid companions as they prepare to embark on their dangerous mission to the West.

Fantasy costume, period costume (Medieval to Edwardian), or a combination of the two is admired but not required and, of course, green attire and costumes inspired by the Oz universe will be very welcome.

The Wizard will provide music for every taste! (And, yes, if you’re familiar with the 1939 film version of “The Wizard of Oz,” you will recognize some of the tunes!).

To order advance tickets for the ball, please send a check for $15.00 each to PEERS at 2144 B Buena Vista Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501. To order tickets online, please go to the ball website at http://peers.org/emerald.html, scroll down to the PayPal icon, and click on it for directions. The deadline for advance ticket purchase is Saturday, June 28. Tickets will be sold at the door for $20.00 each.

For more information, please call (510) 522-1731 or email peers@peers.org.

RIP Sean 'Gobo' Kiely

I'm very saddened to tell you that our inteprid leader in the SC Goth scene, Sean 'Gobo' Kiely
passed away yesterday after a long and valiant fight against the cancer that took him from us.
He was surrounded by his family and he was in no pain.

Sean defined our scene and led us through some of darkest times and some of our very happiest ones.

Always concerned with the community he put an amazing amount of tithed energy into trying to both grow and
nurture the Santa Cruz and the South Bay Goth scene. He was always interested in creating interaction with
the South and San Francisco Goth scenes as well and DJed many clubs in the Bay Area as well as Santa Cruz.

Always intense and funny, he would always take time to listen to you if you had courage to talk to him about
ways that you thought the community could grow.

He was also passionate in fighting for the things he believed in and even during times when people disagreed with his
passionate stance on things, he always commanded a tremendous amount of respect.

He had a laugh that was really cute and infectious. He was an amazing dancer and a great DJ.

His passing leaves such a deep whole that it's hard to fathom what our community will be like without his presence.

Sean 'Gobo' Keily is dancing somewhere, in that sexy military uniform he wore so frequently....................graceful, intelligent,
sensitive and fierce.

We will miss him.

Tonight! Sat, June 14th...it's Satori time once again!!!!

Send me a message if you wanna be on the guest list!

Club Satori @ The Blank Club
Saturday, June 14th

With DJs Vitus & Kevin spinning the best
gothic, industrial, new wave, deathrock,
post-punk, and whatever else they feel like!

9pm-1:45am - 21+
$5, free before 10pm

44 South Almaden Avenue
San Jose, CA

I'm hoping everyone that's interested in going to Satori tonight will message me so they can get on the guest list. We talked with the people representing Sean's family during this rough time, and we're going to be taking donations all night for them to pay for medical bills and funeral arrangements, so save that $5 cover charge and donate it to his family instead. We can do +1 or +2 people to your name on the guest list, so tell your friends to come, too!

We really enjoyed our times djing at The Box, and I know Gobo liked djing at Satori, so hopefully people will come out and give their support. Sean loved the club scene, and I'm sure he'd want people to go out and have a good time. If there's anything anyone wants to do for Sean tomorrow night (bring some pics, flowers, a make-shift memorial), please let me know so we can set up whatever we can.

Not one of PEERS' Goth events but a wonderful opportunity to dress up all the same. Here's our latest ball update:

THE GONE WITH THE WIND BALL
(sponsored by the Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society)
Saturday, June 7, 2008
Doors Open at 6:45 p.m.
Dance Lesson: 7:00 p.m.
Dancing begins: 8:00 p.m.
Band: Bangers & Mash
Advance Tickets: $15.00 (by May 31)
Tickets at the Door: $20.00
Ball Website: http://peers.org/gwtw.html

Join us for the ultimate 19th century romantic fantasy experience - a ball inspired by the Charity Ball in Atlanta from the first part of Gone with the Wind.

Bangers & Mash plays an evening of exquisite waltzes and quadrilles, lively polkas and schottisches, mazurka waltzes, breathless reels and contradances popular in both the North and the South during the American Civil War. There will be a pre-ball dance lesson at 7:00 pm and, as usual, all set dances will be briefly taught or called.

Suggested costume is mid-Victorian evening dress (1850’s or ‘60’s) or modern evening dress. European or Southern gentlemen in uniform are also most welcome. As usual, however, costumes are admired, not required.

Punch and a light snack buffet will be served throughout the evening (Your potluck contributions to the buffet during these difficult times are greatly appreciated!).

To order advance tickets for the ball, please send a check for $15.00 each to PEERS at 2144 B Buena Vista Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501. To order tickets online, please go to the ball website at http://peers.org/gwtw.html , scroll down to the PayPal icon, and click on it for directions. Tickets will be sold at the door for $20.00 each.

For more information, please call (510) 522-1731 or email peers@peers.org.

Please help our extraordinary friend and club guru Sean Keily (aka DJ Gobo, The Box/Club Fate). The BBQ & Carnival is this saturday may 17th, at the Friendship Gardens, Harvey West Park, Santa Cruz.

If you have ever been to a club at the Blue Lagoon, if you have ever danced to Sean's music, if you have ever wondered how to give back to one of the most indomitable spirits in the entire Bay Area Goth/Industrial scene.. This is it.

Please view the flyer in the gallery for event details..
Sad news about Voxy/Voxarella

I'm sure many of you know Voxarella, who was one of our SF Goths until she moved up to Portland 2-3 years ago. This is LeggyLady/Christy Anne's announcement (please direct condolences to her and Neil. I am just the messenger):

"I'm am sorry to make a rare appearance here to post some very sad news.
Voxy ( Voxarella, Tee, etc) has passed away.
I am in touch with her estranged husband, Neal, and will be posting details as I know them.

As of yet, cause of death is unknown. A lot of folks are jumping to conclusions that it was suicide; however, it is very possible and likely it was not as she has been very ill lately and has been having many bad falls and bad reactions to medications.

Her cats are being taken care of. Neal will be up in Portland to collect them and to tie up her affairs. Please send him supportive thoughts to help him through this.
I will post more as I get more info.
May you all be well.
a very heartbroken Christy Anne"

...

I spoke to Neil a short while ago.

1) He will be in Portland until Wednesday finishing up all the details, cleaning up her apartment, etc..

2) The ME report will be released to him tomorrow. In the meantime, however, it is pretty clear that it was accidental.

3) Voxy had been deceased at least a week before discovery (this fact tears me up). The last email I got from her was on 3/15. Last LJ entry was on 3/18. Her last conversation w/ Detlef was 3/25. She was found 4/4.

4) The cats are at the vet being cared for until Neil can bring them home. Other than being completely freaked out and dehydrated, they are going to be just fine. All things considered, they are remarkably healthy. Send healing thoughts to them.

5) Please continue keeping Neil in your thoughts. This has, understandably, been very, very hard on him.

I will post more as I know it.
Sorry for sounding so clinical in the facts...not doing well...at all."

Royal Debutante Ball, Saturday, April 5

Just a reminder that the deadline for purchasing advance bargain tickets to the Royal Debutante Ball is Saturday, March 29. To order advance tickets to the ball, please send a check for $15.00 each to PEERS at 2144 B Buena Vista Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501.
If you would like to buy tickets online, go to the ball website at http://peers.org/debutante.html , scroll down to the PayPal icon and click on it for instructions. Tickets will be sold for $20.00 at the door.

This is not one of PEERS' Gothic-themed events like Le Bal des Vampires but it will be an elegant affair and an excellent excuse to dress up and dance. Hope to see you there!

THE ROYAL DEBUTANTE BALL
(Sponsored by the Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society)
Saturday, April 5, 2008
Site: The San Mateo Masonic Temple, 100 N. Ellsworth Avenue (at Tilton), San Mateo
Doors Open at 6:45 p.m.
Dance Lesson: 7:00 p.m.
Dancing begins: 8:00 p.m.
Advance General Tickets: $15.00 (by Saturday, March 29)
Tickets at the Door: $20.00
Band: Bangers & Mash
Ball Website: http://peers.org/debutante.html

Their Royal Highnesses, Edward Albert, Prince of Wales, and Alexandra, Princess of Wales, request the pleasure of your company at a ball in honour of the debut in Society of their eldest daughter, Her Royal Highness, Princess Louise.

Suggested costume is mid- to late-Victorian evening dress, dress uniform, or vintage or modern evening dress (the year is 1885 but please don't feel compelled to have a new gown made just for this occasion, ladies, unless you really wish to!). As usual, costumes are admired, not required.

Young ladies wishing to make their debut along with the Princess Louise are extremely welcome. Although the customary ensemble for a debutante is white, we can stretch a point for those preferring ivory or cream (and Her Majesty certainly won’t expel you from Court if you insist on wearing another colour). Ladies already "out," of course, have an unlimited choice of colors for their ensemble.

Bangers & Mash plays an evening of elegant Victorian dance music, focusing on waltzes, quadrilles, reels, grand marches, and other set dances, but also including polkas, schottisches, and mazurka waltzes. There will be a pre-ball dance class at 7:00 pm, but all set dances will be briefly taught and called at the ball.

Punch and a light snack buffet will be served throughout the evening (Your potluck contributions to the Royal Kitchen will be very welcome!).

For further information, please call (510) 522-1731 or email peers@peers.org.

Driving Directions to the Ball:
Take the 3rd Avenue exit off 101, going west into San Mateo. Follow 3rd Avenue across the railroad tracks, and turn right on Ellsworth Avenue. The Masonic Lodge is the large, 3-story Colonial style Edwardian building located on the corner of Ellsworth and Tilton.

For any of you young ladies who have always longed for a genuine Debutante Ball, here's your chance. This is not the most Gothic event we've ever done but a great opportunity to wear white or to shock us all by donning black satin.

hi!

I'm originally from Madison, WI and the Washington DC area, but have repatriated to Berkeley after teaching in Japan the past 2 years. And in the 3 months I've been back, I've gotten out dancing all of once due to the perpetual problem of getting home on mass transit.

Surely there are others in Berkeley and Oakland that surmount this problem with cars, and might be willing to give me a lift near to home? I'll pay your next bridge toll in advance, be friendly company for the drive, and appreciate your music.

If you know people who do commute to the clubs that aren't on Tribe, please put us in contact!

Free party at Julie's Supper Club this Friday

Now that Julie's has their permit problems resolved we'll be bringing Neurosix back there next month.

In the meantime, since the night's available this Friday and nothing else is going on we're going to set up the dj rig to just spin some Industrial tunes there for anyone that wants to come by and hang.

This won't be Neurosix, we need more time to plan and promote our official re-opening, but more just a 'hey we're here hanging out, so come on by if you want to join us' kind of affair, with no cover or anything official like that. So if you're looking for something to do this Friday stop on by.

PRIDE & PREJUDICE BALL

No vampires this time but a lot of Theater of the Vampires crowd is involved in this event. Here's our latest write-up:

The Pride & Prejudice Ball
(Sponsored by PEERS – the Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society)
Saturday, March 1, 2008
Location: San Mateo Masonic Temple
100 N. Ellsworth Avenue, San Mateo, CA 94401
(at the corner of Ellsworth & Tilton)
Dance Lesson: 7:00 - 8:00 pm with Dance Master Alan WinstoN
Formal Dancing: 8:00 pm to midnight
Band: Bangers & Mash
Tickets: $15 in advance; $20 at the door

Mr. Bingley requests the pleasure of your company at Netherfield Manor. Join us for an evening of elegant dancing, wit, romance and intrigue.

Late Georgian or Regency costume, day or evening, is admired, not required, and either generic Romantic costume or modern dress is perfectly acceptable. Given the changeable nature of our English weather, wraps are recommended for the ladies, who may find the early part of the evening chilly. Once dancing begins, of course, the ballroom warms up charmingly. We suggest that our guests attend the ball in character as well (choosing from among Miss Austen's other novels for your characters).

That most British of California bands - Bangers & Mash - plays an evening of delightful English country dances (which will be briefly taught or called on the spot) and slightly anachronistic but exquisite waltzes. If you need to brush up on your Regency dancing, there will be a pre-ball dance lesson at 7:00 pm. Partners, fortunately, are not required since it is customary to change partners after every dance set and we will be happy to introduce you to partners, if desired.

Other potential amusements include cards (both Whist and Speculation), music, singing (including a period round, catch and glee sing-a-long), witty conversation and elegant flirtation. There will be a light period snack buffet (Your potluck contributions to our host's kitchen are most welcome).

For more information, please email peers@peers.org,call (510) 522-1731, or see our website at http://www.peers.org To order advance tickets, please send a check for $15.00 each to PEERS at 2144 B Buena Vista Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501. To order tickets online, please go to the ball website at http://www.peers.org/prideprej.html, scroll down to the PayPal icon, and follow the directions. Tickets will be sold at the door for $20.00 each.

Sunday, Feb 10: Benefit for LEYLA with DJs Fernando, Tomas Diablo, Fact50, and Skip

Strangelove presents:
A Benefit and Going-Away Party for LEYLA

with DJs
Tomas Diablo (Strangelove, Rock This Town)
Fernando (Assimilate, Shrine of Lilith)
Fact50 (Debauchery, Less Than Zero)
and Skip (New Wave City, Something)

SUNDAY, February 10th
7PM to 12 Midnight (early, so you can still get yer sleep)
at the Cat Club - Folsom at 8th, San Francisco
Suggested Donation: $10

Come down and show some support for a long-time member of the SF Goth community.
You may know Leyla from Twilight Zone, House of Usher, Roderick's Chamber, Assimilate, A Winter Gone By, Shrine of Lilith, Catacombs, Death Guild, Meat, or Strangelove.

For 12 years, Leyla has lived in the same apartment in Western Addition. 5 years ago, she accepted Jamahl as her roommate, and 2 years ago Jamahl allowed his mother and brother to move in to his bedroom. They lived there RENT FREE, and quickly destroyed the apartment and any semblance of peace. The mother, a particularly nasty woman, would turn her speakers towards Leyla's wall and crank music, lock herself in the bathroom for hours if she knew Leyla had to go to work, and even PEED ON HER TOOTHBRUSH. As master tenant, Leyla tried to have them evicted, but they claimed squatter's rights and wouldn't budge.

In November, Leyla was arrested for "Threat Crime" for saying she wanted to kill her rooommate's mother. She spent 2 weeks in jail before friends could bail her out. Leyla gave up her rent-controlled apartment, and friends moved all of her belongings into storage. She has been broke and homeless ever since, and recently accepted a plea-bargain of "Attempted Threat" so she can finally move on. She'll soon leave for the Mid-West to spend time with her ailing father (who is fighting cancer for the 3rd time).

We hope to raise $$$ for her to pay off bail debt and cover some travel expenses. This will also be the last chance for many of us to wish her well.
New Orleans’ most amusing host, M. Lestat de Lioncourt, invites you to a joyous Mardi Gras Ball in true Nineteenth century ante-bellum New Orleans style. To protect your reputation, masks are strongly recommended, and suggested attire is period costume (any period - but Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century fashions are especially fashionable!), fantasy Mardi Gras costume, or a fanciful version of period costume. Modern evening dress is perfectly acceptable, however, and there is no dress code for the ball.

For the festivities, our host has engaged the celebrated Parisian-American band The Baguette Quartette to play an exquisite mix of waltzes, polkas, schottisches, mazurkas, Les Lanciers and other popular mid-Victorian couple and set dances (both French and English), as well as the ever-popular Congress of Vienna Waltz and the new South American imports Le Tango and La Samba. As usual, all set dances will be briefly taught or called at the ball, partners are not required there will be a pre-ball vintage dance lesson at 7:00 pm, including 19th century rotary waltz and polka, vintage samba, and the turn of the century one-step tango.
